Central in the analysis of the economic philosophy of Apostle Paul1, as this derives from the study of the Acts of (the) Apostles and the Epistles, is the subject of administration and organization of the Oikos. The so-called Household codes2, or Haustafeln in German, are household-economics rules suggestive of proper household behavior of the persons who constitute Oikos and are found both in the New Testament as well as in the Apostolic texts. The publication and parallel translation into German of the considerations of ancient Greeks on the topic of economics, which was edited by two accredited classical philologists3, includes the works of Xenophon, Philodemus of Gadara, Aristotle, Hesiod, the works of tragic and comic writers as well as the excerpts which have been saved from Johannes Stobaeus’ work. Apart from those, the editors cite three passages from the New Testament, more specifically passages in Ephesians 5:21-6:9, Colossians 3:18-4:1 and in the First Epistle of Peter 2:18-3:7. This work is certain to contribute some new elements to the study of ancient Greek economic philosophy. However, it fails to take into consideration passages from the Pauline Pastoral Epistles to Titus 2:1-10 and the First Epistle to Timothy 2:8-15-6:1-2. Presumably, the reason behind the omission of these passages may be the fact that the editors of these texts, influenced by their Protestant beliefs, rejected the authenticity of the Pauline Pastoral Epistles. This study aims at filling this gap by focusing on the Pastoral Epistle to Titus.
