Abstract

In this article, we approach young children as a special target group for studying the insecurity of citizens. We demonstrate some unique features of this age group and their significance in the construction of the setting of the study. We first deal with the theoretical approach to the regulation of children’s insecurity and with the research instruments for studying children’s insecurity. Then we proceed to the main empirical results concerning the sources and content of children’s insecurity. They are based on both the child interviews and parents‘ questionnaires. Thereafter, we describe societal and cultural factors which contribute to the security and insecurity of children. Finally, the role of family factors associated with children’s insecurity is demonstrated.
