China’s development since the early Reforms in 1978 has both impressed and worried outside observers, and the trade war starting in 2019 involves the allegation that China does not play by international rules. The questions that arise from this is which ‘rules’ China plays by, which secret potion has such magic effects. Perhaps, it is the ‘ideology’ and the capacity for goal setting. This short essay shall critically outline some aspects of this.
