From introduction:

I thank the editors and other authors for allowing a slightly unconven-tional contribution to this volume honouring our colleague, Wolfgang Quaisser. As I am not an expert on the Soziale Marktwirtschaft, I only partly address that topic here. Wolfgang’s research output is, however, wide-ranging. Apart from the German and European economies, agricultural economics, pre- and post-Soviet economic systems and transfor-mation, European Union (EU) enlargement, finance policy and financial crises, his work extends to EU integration more broadly, International Relations and foreign policy, and comparative politics. This chapter concentrates on Turkey and on the EU, two areas on which we collaborated, before some comments on the German economy and German politics in the third section.
