Neoliberalism has much to answer for. It was an idea, became a phenomenon, and morphed into an incantation. The original idea of neoliberalism in the interwar eras was quite different and distinct from the political and economic phenomena of the past thirty years which are widely described as “neoliberalism.” Is it simply antiquarianism to point this out? Or is it a way of uncovering a rich previous debate which holds many lessons for current predicaments?
